Chuck D Speaking Event 1999
Chuck D of the influential hip hop group Public Enemy visited SUNY Plattsburgh in the winter of 1999. The rapper came as a speaker for the presidential speaker series. He discussed the history of the genre, the importance of rap music for young Black Americans, as well as his predictions for rap in the future. Bill Kimak attended this event and remembers that the rapper actually spoke with a few students after the talk officialy ended. Kimak talked about how they discussed artist's rights, the complexities that the internet presents in regards to music rights, as well as what the rapper Flavor Flavis really like.
